Old World New York City NYC is working to provide information on the history of lower Manhattan from the years 1609 to 1909 for NYC tourists and travelers - for those on vacation in NYC or those who live here. We try to provide alternative walking tours for history buffs concerning NYC. We offer as much hsitory of Lower Manhattan as possible. Each NYC tourist can make there our walking tours based on the information. We consider this the Old New York. Many people including life long residents walk these streets without knowing the rich history that is beneath their feet. We hope to change that.
We offer current day photos with some over layered graphics to help your imagination. The most important fact is that the current water line (Battery Park City to South Street) are vastly different from the original (Greenwich Street to Pearl Street). The original settlement was a company town with only a few hundred inhabitants. Trade, wars, and economic shift all helped New Amsterdam become New York City.
Old World New York City (NYC) provides free historical information via a virtual walking tour to local residents and travelers (or tourists) concerning lower Manhattan heritage from the years 1609 (
Henry Hudson) to 1909.
We plan to cover topics and locations such as the American Revolution, the
Five Points, Wall Street, Bowling Green, Battery Park, Fort Amsterdam, the Dutch, and many more. Map of the 1660-2006 waterfront and fort.
We will work to provide a simpler snapshot of our history to help you appreciate where we came from (pigs and hogs roaming Bowling Green) and where we are (Wall Street, the Freedom Tower)...
